PVC gloves sit in a different category from coated handling gloves. They are chosen for liquid and chemical resistance first, and dexterity second — which makes the specification conversation different from latex or nitrile.

This guide covers what to establish before you quote or order.

Where PVC fits

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) dipped gloves are used where the hand meets liquids, chemicals or heavy contamination rather than sharp edges:

Compared with a nitrile palm coating, a PVC glove typically offers a full liquid barrier at the cost of breathability and feel.

The specification that matters most

For chemical-resistant gloves, the coating thickness and the material are the specification — not the liner.

QuestionWhy it decides the order
Which chemicals, at what concentration?Resistance is chemical-specific, not universal
Contact type — splash, immersion, or vapour?Splash and immersion need different constructions
Duration of contact?Breakthrough time matters more than “resistant”
Temperature of the chemical?Warmer liquids generally permeate faster
Grip requirement?Smooth, sandy or crinkle finish changes handling

“Chemical resistant” on its own is not a specification. Resistance is always to a named chemical under named conditions.

Breakthrough time, not just “resistant”

Chemical protective gloves are rated by breakthrough time — how long the chemical takes to permeate the glove material. A glove that resists a chemical for 10 minutes and one that resists for 8 hours may both be described as “resistant”, and they are not interchangeable for a task.

Ask for the breakthrough data for the chemical in your process, not a general resistance statement.

Documentation for regulated markets

If the gloves enter the EU, prepare to be asked for:

Confirm the scope of each document covers the specific model being supplied.

Next step

Tell us the chemical, the contact type and the duration — we’ll confirm whether PVC is the right material for the task, or whether nitrile or another construction is the better fit.

*Chemical resistance must be confirmed against the specific chemical and conditions of use. This page is selection guidance, not a resistance rating for any product. Confirm breakthrough data and documentation for the quoted model before ordering.*
