Glass Handling Gloves: Edge Cut and Surface Grip.

A cut pane presents a sharp edge with almost no warning. The cut level is the specification; the coating only decides whether the pane slips while it is carried.

For glass processors, IG unit makers, glaziers and distributors serving the flat glass trade.

Typical specification

Glass handling

Coating

Sandy nitrile, PU for clean glass

Holds a dry pane without leaving a film

Cut target

D–F (A4–A6), ISO 13997

Coupe digits are unreliable on glass

Grip

Dry glass, film and coated surfaces

Smooth palms slide and mark low-E coatings

Packing

12 pairs / polybag, pair-pack*

Pair packing suits issue to glaziers

* Typical figure. Confirm against your quotation.

What the job actually demands

Four conditions decide the specification. On a real site they rarely appear alone.

01

Cut from freshly cut edges

A cut edge is a blade. Coupe results on glass are unreliable, so the specification is the ISO 13997 letter: D for general handling, E–F for cut sizes, shaped edges and edge work.

02

Grip on clean, dry glass

Sandy nitrile holds a clean pane without leaving a film. Smooth nitrile and latex both slide on dry glass, and both leave marks that show on coated and low-E surfaces.

03

Large panes and wrist coverage

Carrying a two-meter pane loads the wrist and forearm. A longer knit cuff or gauntlet protects the wrist without changing the palm specification.

04

Contamination on coated glass

Low-E and coated surfaces show every mark. Low-lint liners and pairs kept for glass only matter more here than a heavier coating.

Reading the markings. The four digits come from EN 388 — abrasion, cut (coupe), tear and puncture. The letter comes from ISO 13997, which is the method that holds up on hard and abrasive edges. Where both appear, quote both in the brief. How the markings work.

Where this specification usually goes wrong

Three failures that show up on first orders, in the order they cost money.

Reading the cut level off a used glove

Cut performance falls as the liner loads with glass dust and is washed. Replace on a schedule tied to handling hours, not on visible wear.

Assuming cut protection covers grip

Two gloves at the same ISO 13997 level can behave completely differently on a dry pane. Test the pair on the actual glass thickness and surface.

Marking the product you are handling

Oils, dyes and dusty liners transfer to coated glass. Keep dedicated clean pairs and confirm the finish with a sample on your own product.

Gloves that fit this brief

Stock constructions to start a sample from. Each one can be re-specified on liner, coating and packing.

Level A5 cut resistant gloves

Sandy nitrile palm for cut panes where grip and edge protection meet.

E / ISO 13997  ·  Sandy nitrile  ·  Low lint

Level A7 cut resistant gloves

Heavier liner for cut sizes, shaped edges and repeated edge contact.

F / ISO 13997  ·  A7 liner  ·  Nitrile palm

Long cuff PVC gloves

Rough palm and long cuff for wash-down, wet glass and handling lines.

Long cuff  ·  PVC palm  ·  Wet grip

Packing & documents

What ships with the carton.

The glove is half the order. The other half is the pack, the marks and the paperwork that let a shipment clear and a reorder repeat.

01

Pair packing

Pairs bagged and labeled by size for issue to glaziers and fitters.

02

Clean-room discipline

Pairs reserved for coated glass, kept out of the cutting area.

03

Test evidence

ISO 13997 result for the quoted model, in the letter scale used on the marking.

04

Market entry

EU: Category II under PPE Regulation 2016/425, CE marking and a Declaration of Conformity per model.

The brief

What to send us

Send what you already know. Missing items can be settled during sampling.

  • Glass type and thickness, and whether it is coated
  • Cut sizes, edge work or installed glass
  • Wet or dry handling, and any wash-down
  • Cut letter you are being asked to match
  • Cuff length and packing format

Order terms

Indicative ranges for this industry. They move with liner availability, coating color and artwork approval.

MOQ*

From 300 dozen per style and color; pair packing available.

Sampling*

7–10 working days, with a trial pair set for the cutting line.

Production*

25–35 days after approval, longer where a new liner is knitted.

* Typical range, not a quotation. Confirm current terms with the offer.

Questions buyers ask

Answers we would give on a call, written down.

D for general handling of cut panes, E–F for cut sizes, shaped edges and repeated edge contact. Ask for the ISO 13997 result rather than the coupe digits, because glass blunts the coupe blade and distorts the result.

Latex slides on dry glass and leaves marks on coated surfaces. Sandy nitrile is the better answer for both grip and finish, and avoids natural rubber latex for wearers with sensitivity.

Palm-coated builds can be washed at low temperature and air-dried, but cut performance drops as the liner loads and fibers relax. Treat washing as hygiene, not as restoration of protection.

Standard packing is 12 pairs per polybag. Pair packing with a size label is available for glazing teams where gloves are issued individually.

Send the glove you need.

A product link, a reference photo or a short buying brief is enough to start. Include the quantity, destination and any marking requirement.
